What we handle
- Separation agreements that cover parenting, support and property in one signed document, so you are not renegotiating every year.
- Divorce, contested and uncontested. Most uncontested divorces are paperwork; we file them for a fixed fee.
- Parenting time and decision-making responsibility (what used to be called custody and access), including parenting plans that work around shift schedules and school calendars.
- Child and spousal support calculated under the federal Child Support Guidelines and the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines, with the math shown to you.
- Property division: equalization of net family property for married spouses, and the different rules that apply to common-law couples.
- Mediation and collaborative family law when both sides want to settle without a judge.
Common-law in Ontario? Unlike married spouses, common-law partners have no automatic right to split property that is in the other person’s name. If you are living together, a cohabitation agreement is far cheaper than a lawsuit later.
How a family file usually runs
Free 30-minute consultation
We listen, run a conflict check, and tell you plainly what the law says about your situation.
Financial disclosure
Both sides exchange income and property information. We give you a checklist so nothing gets missed.
Negotiation or mediation
Most of our files settle here. We put every offer in writing so you can think it over.
Court, only if needed
If the other side will not engage, we bring your case to the Superior Court of Justice, Family Court, in Ottawa.
What it costs
Uncontested divorce is a fixed fee. Separation agreements and contested matters are billed hourly against a retainer, and we send you an itemized account every month so there are no surprises. We accept legal aid certificates for family matters.
